PHILLIPS x NOBLE & GRAFF
The Rolex GMT-Master reference 1975 worn by Marlon Brando in Francis Ford Cappola's 'Apocalypse Now"
Behind the formidable charm and physique was Marlon Brando, a twice winner of the Academy Award for Best Actor. The screen legend is widely considered one of the greatest actors ever to have strolled onto a film set, and had delivered a string of electrifying performances in the likes of ‘The Godfather’, ‘Superman’ and ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’. His iconic role as the larger-than-life Colonel Walter E. Kurtz in Francis Ford Coppola's expressionistic landmark ‘Apocalypse Now’ has continually brought the world to its knees.
In this year which marks the 40th anniversary of the film, the long thought to be lost Rolex GMT-Master ref. 1675 worn by Brando will be auctioned by Phillips. He famously altered the relic by removing the distinctive bezel for this role. As an homage to the storied piece, Noble & Graff has created a special-edition sculpture (‘Kurtz’) conferred with the Colonel’s signature military dog tags. It has also undergone the process of artificial aging -- fire-heated, hand-hammered and textured for a handsome, rustic finish, forever immortalising the mythical figure who has braved the storm of shots and shells.
